A group of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine students representing the school's Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association and South Asian Society led the planning and organization of GCSOM's first Lunar New Year's celebration Jan. 22.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) chapter of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) participates in Policy Summit

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) chapter of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) recently participated in LMSA's Policy Summit held in October in Washington, D.C. Fourth-year student, Yoseph Aldras, who served as president in his second year, served as the conference co-chair of LMSA's national Policy Committee. In that position, he helped plan the summit, developed promotional materials, worked with invited speakers and reviewed policy resolutions drafted by attendees at the three-day event.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's Health & Wellness Committee hosts Spring Health Fair

On March 7, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's Health & Wellness Committee hosted its annual Spring Health Fair. The committee worked tirelessly to establish relationships with outside vendors and bring them to campus. Fourteen vendors from the community shared their services and products that promote and encourage all aspects of health, wellness, fitness and lifestyle improvements. Students were able to take advantage of free massages, made essential oils, sampled healthy food and learned about sun damage prevention.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's chapter of the American Medical Women's Association holds annual Rose-A-Palooza

The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) chapter of the American Women's Medical Association (AMWA) recently held its annual Rose-A-Palooza to benefit the Women's Resource Center. During the Rose-A-Palooza event, students, faculty and staff at GCSOM are encouraged to remember someone they appreciate and then purchase roses to send them in order to promote healthy relationships. The proceeds are donated to Women's Resource Center (WRC), which provides services to adult and child survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence in Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties.

Jonathan Livezey, of Ambler, organizes Alzheimer's disease lecture

Jonathan Livezey, of Ambler, a first-year medical student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, organized an event hosted by the school's Neuroscience/Neurosurgery Interest Group. The event, coordinated with the Wilkes-Barre branch of the Alzheimer's Association, brought Dr. Maya Lichtenstein, a neurologist at the Geisinger Aging Brain Clinic, to the school to give a lecture about the clinical diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine students organize visit from missionary alumnus

Student members of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's Christian Medical & Dental Association organized an Aug. 29 event with a Geisinger Commonwealth alumnus, who spoke about her experiences in missionary medicine. Samantha Conroy, M.D., a member of Geisinger Commonwealth's Class of 2014, not only shared her experiences working overseas during residency, but she also discussed her decision to participate in a two-year post residency program through Samaritan's Purse.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine MBS students elect representatives

Several master of biomedical sciences (MBS) students have been elected to Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (Geisinger Commonwealth) Doylestown campus Graduate Student Council (GSC) for the 2017-18 academic year. GSC represents the united voice of graduate students and provides programs and activities, which support the school's mission and core values. The elected officers of GSC will work to strengthen existing bonds between students, faculty, staff and administration and to enrich the school's educational excellence and student affairs programs.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine Primary Care Progress chapter launches leadership series with talk by Dr. David Feinberg, Geisinger CEO

The Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's Primary Care Progress chapter hosted Dr. David Feinberg, president and CEO of Geisinger Health System, as keynote speaker for its spring 2017 Leadership Series launch on Monday, Feb. 13. Dr. Feinberg discussed his pathway to leadership in a talk entitled, "Inspiration to Lead: A Personal Narrative."
