Geisinger Commonwealth student receives one of just four Physician's Foundation scholarships

Guha Jay Ganesh, GCSOM MD Class of 2024, received one of just four scholarships awarded to medical students by the Physician's Foundation, a nonprofit that, through research, education and grantmaking works to improve physician wellbeing, strengthen physician leadership, address drivers of health and lift physician perspectives.

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine welcomes newest Abigail Geisinger Scholars

Abigail Geisinger Scholars from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine's (GCSOM) class of 2026 were welcomed into the family by their mentors and system leaders at a special reception and ceremony. Students accepted to the Abigail Geisinger Scholars Program pay no tuition and receive a monthly stipend in exchange for a commitment to work as a Geisinger primary care physician or psychiatrist upon residency completion.

Five Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine students receive scholarships to attend FMEC annual meeting

Five Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) medical students attended the 2021 Family Medicine Education Consortium's (FMEC) annual meeting in Pittsburgh, which was held in-person from Oct. 8 through Oct. 10. Each student who attended is an Abigail Geisinger Scholar and all received an FMEC scholarship to participate in the conference.

Lycoming County Medical Society awards scholarship to Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine student

The Lycoming County Medical Society awarded a $3,000 scholarship to Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine student Tyler Bogaczyk of Williamsport. A member of GCSOM's MD Class of 2023, Bogaczyk is also a participant in the Abigail Geisinger Scholars Program. Acceptance to the program allows students to graduate without tuition debt, provided they become Geisinger physicians upon completion of residency training.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society Alliance has bestowed an Alliance Medical Education Scholarship (AMES) upon Amelia Mackarey of Clarks Summit, a fourth-year medical student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM). The scholarships will be awarded at the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates Meeting in Hershey on Saturday Oct. 26.

The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society awarded the Alliance Medical Education Scholarship (AMES) to Pennsylvania medical students. Among the recipients is Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine fourth-year student, Rachel Z. Polinski of Sayre.

Alexa Mills of Renovo awarded inaugural Poorman Scholarship

Alexa Mills of Renovo is the inaugural recipient of the "Stephen and Pamela Poorman Physician Annual Scholarship in Honor of Dr. Randle H. Storm and Dr. Sanjay Doddaman." The scholarship benefits medical students who either reside in Clinton County or have graduated from Lock Haven University. Ms. Mills is a member of Geisinger Commonwealth's Class of 2021 and is a native of Renovo, Clinton County and is a 2016 graduate of Lock Haven University.

Ryan Flick of Johnstown, a third-year medical student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, has been named recipient of an Apollo Scholarship, bestowed by the Cambria County Medical Society in collaboration with Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, which serves Bedford, Cambria, Somerset and Indiana counties.

Rachel Z. Polinski of Sayre, a third-year medical student at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) in Scranton, was awarded a scholarship from the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) Alliance Medical Education Scholarship (AMES) Fund. Polinski was presented with the scholarship at PAMED's annual inauguration and awards ceremony at the Great American Hall of the Convention Center in Hershey in October.

Evan Frigoletto of Cherry Ridge Township, a first-year medical student at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC,) has been notified that he is the recipient of the 2016-2017 Wayne Memorial Health System (WMHS) scholarship. The scholarship is available to an academically qualified student who resides in Wayne or Pike counties or the greater Carbondale area of Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties.

Nichole Ogojiaku of Marietta awarded a National Health Service Corps scholarship

Nichole Ogojiaku, M.S., of Marietta, a second-year medical student at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC) in Scranton, was recently notified that she was was awarded a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) scholarship for her commitment to primary care. The scholarship pays tuition, fees, other educational costs, and provides a living stipend in return for a commitment to work at least two years at an NHSC-approved site in a medically underserved community.
